Person hospitalized after accident involving suspected DUI driver

The incident started in Sacramento County but ended in Placer County.

SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. — One person is in the hospital and another is behind bars after an incident spanning parts of Sacramento and Placer counties.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a driver was rear-ended on northbound Walerga Road near North Loop Boulevard by another driver just after 6 p.m.

A CHP spokesperson said the first driver tried to get the second driver to pullover when a third driver pulled over and got involved.

Officials said the third driver confronted the second driver, but the second driver drove off, with the third driver getting caught on the car.

The second driver went north along Walerga and hit the center divide before crashing into a ditch near PFE Road.

The second driver was cited and released on suspicion of DUI and hit-and-run in Sacramento County and then booked into Placer County Jail on assault charges.

While the first driver wasn't hurt, the third driver was taken to the hospital with major injuries.
