TRACY, Calif. — A Tracy woman plead guilty Tuesday to filing more than 70 fraud unemployment insurance claims with the California Employment Development Department (EDD).
Between April 2020 and August 2021, 32-year-old Kaymeisha Keyes used the fake EDD claims to cost the department more than $1.1 million in losses as she tried applying for more than $2 million in claims.
U.S. Attorney's officials said she submitted false information to an online identity network company known as ID.me — a company contracted by multiple unemployment agencies to identify people who file unemployment claims.
Keyes used photos of herself and other schemers to verify fake drivers licenses and had the unemployment benefits sent to addresses she controlled.
She faces a two-year mandatory prison sentence on aggravated identity theft charges and could get a maximum of 20 years in jail.
