UC Davis police officer 'unintentionally' shoots gun during arrest of suspected vandals

All three people were arrested after allegedly graffitiing sculptures on campus, at which point the officer "unintentionally" shot their gun, officials say.

DAVIS, Calif. — A UC Davis police officer accidentally fired their gun while three people were arrested for vandalism on the campus Friday morning, according to officials.

Police say it happened around 1:40 a.m. after multiple buildings were tagged with graffiti and they were called to Mrak Hall about graffiti on the Egghead sculptures.

Three people were spotted spray painting other Eggheads near the Art Building and ran, leading police on a chase. All three people were arrested, at which point the officer "unintentionally" shot their gun, officials say. No one was injured and it's unclear how the gun was shot.

The incident is under investigation and no other information is available at this time.
