VACAVILLE, Calif. — Three people from Sacramento are facing identity theft charges that span across California and into Oregon.
According to Vacaville police, a recent arrest revealed the trio had "bags upon bags" of identifying information in a U-Haul that was reported stolen.
Doug Brown, 30; Samantha Krauss, 21; and Anthony Solis, 29, were arrested on charges including vehicle theft, identity theft, conspiracy and violations of their probation.
Authorities said Krauss was also placed under arrest for two warrants out of Sacramento County. She and Solis were also charged with vehicle theft with a prior conviction
Police became aware of Brown and Krauss when officers were told two people were looking into vehicles on a Lawrence Drive hotel. Arriving officers found a U-Haul van that had been reported stolen the day before with evidence that it was recently occupied.
Suspecting the U-Haul was connected with the original call, more officers came to help locate the suspects. Brown and Krauss were seen in the building's stairwell and appeared startled when an officer noticed them, police said.
Police said Brown and Krauss tried to flee but were met by officers. Authorities said Brown was holding a U-Haul key and discarded methamphetamine when an officer contacted him.
Solis was also found with Brown and Krauss. Officers said they linked the stolen U-Haul to the trio.
The identity theft investigation is ongoing due to the amount of suspected victims. More than 100 victims were identified from Southern California, Northern California, and Oregon.
