WOODLAND, Calif. — A family is mourning the death of their loved one after he was shot and killed at a home in Woodland.
Woodland police were called for reports of gunshots at a home off Ashley Avenue around 1 a.m.
"It sounded like a couple of rapid shots. I didn't think it was shots because that's not something that's common around here," said a resident who didn't want to be identified.
Police found the man in the backyard of the home with gunshot wounds. He died at the scene. His identity hasn't been released yet, but police say he was around 30 years old.
Gwendolyn Kaltoft, a resident of 20 years, said she walks through the area daily.
"I'm very concerned that people have gotten to this point in our culture in general that we are taking weapons up against one another. It's very sad to me," she said, adding that the neighborhood was very peaceful.
However, that peace was disrupted after police say two men ran away after the shooting. They’re believed to be armed and went off in the direction of Ferns Park.
Patrol, canines and a drone team searched for them in the area, but they have yet to be found. In an update, police said one person was detain in connection to the shooting.
Families who use Ferns Park as their meeting place are now on edge.
"I come here with my children and it's just very scary that would happen you know. They could run into something like this and it's just not. Doesn't feel safe anymore," said the resident who didn't want to be identified, adding that she'd like to see cameras installed at the park.
She said she would like to see cameras installed at the park.
