YUBA COUNTY, Calif. — A Yuba County jail employee was accused of smuggling drugs into the jail.

According to the Yuba County Sheriff's Office, Shelby Beeler, 33 of Marysville, was arrested following an interview with deputies. The arrest stems from allegations that surfaced this week.

Officials described Beeler as a civilian employee.

“I am angry and saddened to learn of these events,” says Sheriff Wendell Anderson. “This will have a major impact on our staff and community. In addition, the men and women who work in our jail and those in our care were put into harm’s way due to the actions of a few individuals. I am confident the investigators will find all responsible parties, and they will be held accountable for their actions. We work hard to earn and keep the trust of our community and those we serve. Incidents like these often tarnish and damage that relationship.”

Beeler has been with the jail since January 2022. He was assigned as the visiting clerk.

It's not clear why Beeler allegedly smuggled drugs into the jail or how many people might have been involved.

The investigation is still underway with the potential for additional arrests, officials said.

"There is no place in this organization for this type of behavior and those that violate our policies, the law, and the public trust will be rooted out and dealt with accordingly,” Sheriff Anderson said.
