STOCKTON, Calif. — A misdemeanor domestic violence charge has been filed against former Stockton Fire Chief Erik Newman, according to the Stanislaus County District Attorney's Office.
In a court document filed on July 2, the Stanislaus County District Attorney's office alleges Newman "did commit a misdemeanor, Battery on a spouse or cohabitor." The alleged incident took place in a neighborhood in Turlock on Friday, June 14.
The complaint accuses Newman of a "corporal injury resulting in a traumatic condition" on a woman he has had a dating relationship.
Newman was fire chief when the alleged incident occurred, however, he retired on June 30, 2019. Newman previously accepted a position to join the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management as a deputy director. At the time of his arrest, a spokesman for the department said they, "will reserve comment until more information is available."
Newman is set to be arraigned in a Stanislaus County court room on July 19th.
