SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Speeding, cussing and tailgating are just a few characteristics of drivers behaving badly, aka road rage.
GasBuddy conducted a study that found Sacramento ranked third in the nation for having the most aggressive drivers. Sacramento wasn't the only California city within the top 10 as San Francisco and San Diego, ranking fifth and sixth respectively.
GasBuddy determined these findings by comparing, "the average number of aggressive driving events per trip for drivers in a particular metropolitan area to the average number of aggressive driving events per trip for the average American driver." They looked at the frequency of aggressive events while driving — speeding, hard braking or accelerating.
According to GasBuddy Friday is the most aggressive day on the roads, whereas Wednesday is the least aggressive day.
Recently, our own Rob Carlmark caught a motorist speeding through a red light.
So, what do you do if you spot road rage? According to Officer Harris from the California Highway Patrol:
- Avoid eye contact with angry drivers.
- Never drive home if the aggressive driver continues to follow you.
- Always CALL 911 if you feel threatened and be prepared to give a description of the driver, car and license plate number.
