SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento City Unified School District and the Sacramento City Teachers Association announced a two year contract agreement Saturday.

The contract will run through June 30, 2025 and includes a 6% salary increase for the current academic year retroactive to July 1, 2023. An additional 2% raise will go into effect for the 2024-25 academic year.

Along with the raises, classroom sizes will be reduced from 33 to 30 students for fourth through sixth grade and seventh through twelfth grade classroom sizes will reduce from 35 to 33 students for English, math, science and social studies.

“This agreement affirms Sac City Unified’s commitment to providing our students with the staffing support and resources they need to thrive and succeed,” said Interim Superintendent Lisa Allen in a statement. “It also enables district staff to put their full focus toward improving student achievement and outcomes.”

All secondary schools will be staffed with a librarian, additional school nurses will be provided for students and the timeline for hiring before the school year will change to ensure more schools have adequate staffing ahead of the new year.

“We have the opportunity to make significant improvements to students’ learning conditions, while simultaneously making Sac City Unified a great place for educators to make a career,” said Nikki Milevsky, a school psychologist and President of the Sacramento City Teachers Association, in a statement. “Sac City leaders are proving that when they work with educators great things can happen.”

This agreement comes months after another from August 2023. The 2023 agreement was proposed after a nearly two-week strike in the spring of 2022 and the eventual resignation of former SCUSD Superintendent Jorge Aguilar June 2023.
