SACRAMENTO, Calif — Pro-Palestinian protests continue on college campuses as "decision day" arrives for students. Decision day is a time for high school students to declare where they are going to college.
With an encampment at Sacramento State University ongoing for the past number of days, it begs the question as to whether some feel it could be a deterrent for future students who tour the campus.
However, Sacramento State President Luke Wood said the university has actually seen an increase in applicants, about 3,400. The number includes undergraduate and graduate students.
“Despite having an encampment on campus, our applications are up, and I think it's because, when they come on campus, they see what is taking place here is peaceful,” said Wood.
There have also been an increase in community college transfers for the university as well.
The university has credited, in part, increased visibility in the region, and they plan to expand their campaign in the fall.
These increases come as the CSU approved a five-year tuition increase.
