Fellow officer pays respects to fallen Newman Corporal

Officer Jason Silva is grieving over the loss of his friend, Ronil Singh.

Wednesday was a long day for Jason Silva.

The fellow police officer payed his respects to his long-time friend and slain Newman Police Corporal Ronil Singh.

The two men attended the police academy together and were close friends, Silva said, an officer with the Stockton Police Department.

Silva went to the corner of Merced and Eucalyptus Avenue, where his friend was shot and killed during a traffic stop around 1 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26

“He has a five-month-old son and a family at home that expected him to be home,” Silva said. “They recently took a photo, it was posted on Facebook with him and his wife, son, and his K9 partner. Obviously you know, that’s the last photo he’s ever going to have with his family.”

The unidentified suspect remains on the loose, according to Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department. The Sheriff’s Department has released a photo of the suspect who was last seen shopping at a convenient store in Newman.
