Betty Irene Moore dead at 95

The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, cofounded by Moore and her husband, says she died peacefully in her sleep and surrounded by family Tuesday morning.

DAVIS, Calif. — The namesake and cofounder of a University of California, Davis died at 95 Tuesday, the university announced. 

Betty Irene Moore was credited as an advocate for patients and families in the healthcare system, the cofounder of a foundation seeking "durable change" in environmental conservation, scientific research, higher education and the San Francisco Bay Area, and a pioneer for improving healthcare. 

"Betty Irene Moore gave us our School of Nursing's name; we give her our eternal thanks," said UC Davis Health in a social media post

The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, cofounded by Moore and her husband, says she died peacefully in her sleep and surrounded by family this morning.

Moore served on the board of El Camino Hospital in Mountain View and volunteered at the Palo Alto Senior Day Care Center, was a member of the Governing Board of a historic house and garden near Woodside that's part of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and served on its Fine Arts Committee.
