Not all sellers are giving refunds for coronavirus-canceled events

Depending on the event and ticket seller, people might not get a refund for their ticket, depending on coronavirus concerns.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California Gov. Gavin Newsom and health officials are urging the cancellation of non-essential events with more than 250 people to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, and many events have complied.

"That includes all large athletic events, private concerts and functions, large conferences and the like," Newsom said Thursday in a press conference.

What's top of mind for ticketholders is: "Will I get my refund?"

Generally, when an event is canceled, the ticket seller will send an email to alert people that the ticket will be refunded. However, not all event organizers and ticket sellers have clear-cut guidelines for whether ticket holders will get a refund for canceled events or events that were affected by coronavirus concerns.

So far, here are ticket sellers and event organizers that have made decisions on whether ticket holders can get a refund for a coronavirus related closure.

Ticketmaster and Live Nation

People who purchased tickets from Ticketmaster should receive an email when their event has been canceled.

Ticketmaster's general policy is that they issue refunds if an event is canceled, rescheduled or postponed, except for MLB games.

If a ticket holder has event ticket insurance, Ticketmaster should issue a refund if the person is sick with the coronavirus but not because they don't want to go to an event for fear of contracting the virus.

Ticketmaster is keeping a list of events they issued tickets for and were canceled or postponed due to the coronavirus.

Local event venues that use this service are:
