FAIRFIELD, California — Fairfield schools are preparing for a possible coronavirus outbreak after a Solano County resident became the county's first confirmed case via community spread.
On Wednesday night, the CDC confirmed the first case of 2019 Novel Coronavirus in a Solano County resident. Health officials confirmed it as the first person-to-person case in the general public in California and said the person was not exposed to the virus through traveling or through contact with someone known to be infected.
The person has been getting treatment at the UC Davis Medical Center.
The district said they were notified by the CDC to prepare for a possible outbreak of the virus.

In a message sent out to families, the district said they and county health officials have been making efforts to ensure student and staff safety.
"While this may be alarming and cause fear, we want to assure you that FSUSD is taking precautions to keep our school sites disinfected and clean. Our staff will wipe down commonly shared surfaces every day with disinfectants," the district said in the news release.
Students and staff are being encouraged to wash their hands frequently, cover their nose and mouth when sneezing and coughing, and to stay home if they are sick.
The district says any questions or concerns can be directed to your child's school principal. You can find a full list of Fairfield-Suisun Unified schools and principals HERE.
