STANISLAUS COUNTY, Calif. — A man died of influenza in Stanislaus County, marking the county's first death of under 65 years old this season.
No other details about the man were released due to patient privacy. County health officials say the flu is an annual occurrence and can range from mild to severe with symptoms including: fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, muscle or body aches, headaches and fatigue.
They warn serious flu complications can lead to hospitalization or death in some cases. Young children, adults aged 65 or older, pregnant people and people with chronic medical conditions could be at a higher risk of more serious flu complications.
Officials encourage anyone with serious symptoms to contact their healthcare provider.
COVID and RSV cases are also up with the flu. Health officials strongly encourage people get vaccinated, wear masks while in crowded indoor settings, wash hands frequently and stay home when feeling symptoms to help stop the spread.
