SUTTER COUNTY, Calif. — One person is dead after a head-on crash in Sutter County Sunday evening.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision was reported around 6:40 p.m. in the area of Highway 113 and Leisure Road.
CHP said a northbound gray 2003 Volkswagen tried to pass two cars ahead of it on the highway while a black Mercedes was heading southbound.
The Mercedes turned to the right to avoid the crash, but the Volkswagen swerved to its left, leading to a collision on the dirt shoulder of Highway 113.
The driver of the Volkswagen, a 19-year-old man out of Marysville, died in the crash. The driver of the Mercedes had major injuries and was taken to a hospital.
CHP said the area in which the crash happened had a solid yellow line for northbound traffic and a broken yellow line for southbound traffic.
Drugs and alcohol aren't suspected as factors in the crash.
