1 dead, others injured in Rio Vista highway crash

Police say three vehicles were blocking the Highway 12 when officers arrived.

RIO VISTA, Calif. — A man is dead and multiple others are injured following a multi-vehicle crash in Rio Vista. 

The Rio Vista Police Department said the crash happened on Friday at 3:15 p.m. on Highway 12 and Church Road. 

When officers arrived to the scene, police said there was three vehicles blocking the roadway. 

According to police, a truck crashed into a fence on the south side of Highway 12, as there were two other vehicles on the roadway. 

Police said a 79-year-old man died at the North Bay Medical Center in Fairfield. 

Two others were taken to the hospital and their injuries are not known, police said. 

The Solano County Sheriff's Office announced that Highway 12 will be closed in both directions between Druin Drive and Summerset Road from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday for an investigation in relation to the crash.

Drivers are asked to use the following detours:

•Westbound 12: River Road, Airport Road, Liberty Island Road, Canright Road, Azevedo Rd, to Hwy 12 West.
•Eastbound 12: Summerset Road, Liberty Island Road, to Airport Road, to River Road, to N Front Street, to Hwy 12 East
