SUTTER COUNTY, Calif. — Seventeen people were arrested and five more are still wanted after warrants were executed Sunday amid a multi-county investigation in Northern California.
According to a news release, the arrests are the result of a two-year investigation into violence between two crime syndicates affecting the East Indian Sikh community.
Investigators say the violence escalated from fights at the 2018 Yuba City Sikh Parade to a shooting outside of a Sept. 2021 wedding in Yuba City where a man was shot in the head but survived.
Since then, 10 more shootings have happened involving the two groups and a total of 11 men were shot – including the five shot outside the Stockton Sikh temple last August and the two shot outside the Sacramento Sikh temple in March.
Forty-one firearms were also confiscated throughout the course of the investigation and arrests.
“Our small county is so appreciative of all the help we received from our allied agencies – including the California Department of Justice, CHP, DEA, FBI, Homeland Security Investigations and the local law enforcement in the 6 affected counties – those who helped with this investigation and the searches and arrests on Sunday” said Sutter County District Attorney Jennifer R. Dupré.
