KEYES, Calif. — Two men died after a police chase in Stanislaus County Thursday night.
According to the Ceres Police Department, it started around 9 p.m. when the Modesto Police Department tried to stop a Ford Fusion near Hatch Road and Jim Way.
Ceres police responded and found the vehicle on Highway 99 near the Mitchell Road exit and officers began following it. Police say the driver began driving recklessly by speeding around vehicles on the shoulder and a chase began.
Ceres police chased the vehicle through Keyes and it ended with the Fusion crashing into an uninvolved Ford Mustang near Keyes Road and Geer Road.
Two of the people inside the Fusion – the driver and front passenger, both 20-year-old men from Modesto – were ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.
The two rear passengers in the Fusion – a 24 and 18-year-old from Modesto – were hospitalized with major injuries.
The driver of the Mustang, a 17-year-old from Hughson, was also hospitalized with major injuries.
The California Highway Patrol responded to investigate the crash and anyone with information can call CHP at 209-545-7440.
