2 hurt after RV catches fire at Chevron in Ceres

Officials said the RV was trying to get gas when a mechanical failure caused the fire.

CERES, Calif. — Two people were taken to the hospital after an RV fire in Ceres Monday afternoon.

The Modesto Fire Department told ABC10 the fire was reported around 4:30 p.m. at the Chevron near Hatch Road and Herndon Avenue.

Officials said an RV was getting ready to fill up at the gas pump when a mechanical failure caused the fire. The owner of the RV tried to put it out but wasn't able to do so.

The employees at the Chevron were able to use an emergency shut off for the pumps to isolate the fire as crews arrived to put out the flames.

Ultimately, two people were hurt and taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The RV was damaged along with the overhang for the pumps and some damage to multiple pumps themselves.
