2 pedestrians hit, killed in Fairfield in less than 12-hour span

The Fairfield Police Department says there's been seven pedestrian vs. vehicle accidents resulting in injury in the last month.

FAIRFIELD, Calif. — The Fairfield Police Department is investigating two deadly pedestrian accidents from within the last day.

According to police, the first happened around 11 p.m. Wednesday. Police say a woman was crossing East Travis Boulevard at Kidder Avenue when she was hit by a pickup truck going west.

Officers arrived less than a minute after the crash and began CPR. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, identified as 44-year-old Angelica Medina of Suisun, was stopped. Police say Medina was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash and she was arrested for vehicular manslaughter.

Then, Thursday morning, a man was hit and killed by a hit-and-run driver as he was crossing Sunset Avenue.

The Fairfield Police Department says the two deaths come a week after two deadly pedestrian vs. vehicle crashes, bringing the tally from within the last month up to seven.

"Whether the contributing factor was speed, driving while impaired or inattention/distraction, all are absolutely inexcusable," wrote police.
