YUBA COUNTY, Calif. — Yuba County deputies say it'll take days to finish removing more than 200 cats from a Plumas Lake home.
The removal process started after the Yuba County Sheriff's Office and Animal Care Services (ACS) responded to the 1300 block of Sundance Drive for numerous complaints.
Officials found cats scattered throughout the home Tuesday afternoon, with most of the cats scared of humans and running away.
While the owner hasn't been identified, the sheriff's office says she told officials she owned a feral cat rescue. It's unclear if she went out looking for the cats or if they were dropped off at the home.
About 46 cats were dead, with 160 alive.
The investigation is ongoing and potential charges will be filed once it wraps up.
The ACS team is getting help from a rescue agency outside of the area, but they are still taking donations to help with medical treatment of the animals.
Donations can be made to the Yuba County ACS STARS medical fund by calling the ACS office or mailing payment to 5245 Feather River Boulevard, Olivehurst, CA 95961.
