Grant Fire in Sacramento County: Forward progress stopped on 119-acre fire in Rancho Cordova

Officials said the vegetation fire was at Grant Line Road and White Rock Road.

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. — Crews have stopped forward progress on the so-called Grant Fire that sparked in Rancho Cordova Wednesday afternoon.

The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District said the fire was burning in the area of Grant Line Road and White Rock Road. It's grown to roughly 119 acres. The blaze was burning at a moderate rate of spread before forward progress was stopped, according to fire officials.

The blaze is currently 50% contained. No structure were threatened by the fire. The cause is under investigation.

WILDFIRE PREPS

If you live in a wildfire-prone zone, Cal Fire suggests creating a defensible space around your home. Defensible space is an area around a building in which vegetation and other debris are completely cleared. At least 100 feet is recommended.

The Department of Homeland Security suggests assembling an emergency kit that has important documents, N95 respirator masks, and supplies to grab with you if you’re forced to leave at a moment’s notice. The agency also suggests signing up for local warning system notifications and knowing your community’s evacuation plans best to prepare yourself and your family in cases of wildfires.
