SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento County has recorded its second heat-related death of 2024.
According to the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office, 77-year-old Albert Edadiz died of heat stroke at UC Davis Medical Center on July 12. He was not unhoused at the time of death.
The coroner’s office says it did not conduct an examination of Edadiz because he was hospitalized for an extended period prior to his death. The county says he was hospitalized July 3.
The first heat-related death happened earlier in July when 58-year-old Kevin Gerhardt collapsed on the floor of his north Sacramento mobile home on a 113-degree day. He was taken to the hospital where he died of heat stroke.
