ROSEVILLE, Calif. — Five people were hospitalized Sunday after a two-car crash in Roseville.
The California Highway Patrol says it happened just before 3 p.m. Sunday at the Eureka Road offramp from eastbound I-80.
CHP says 52-year-old Dale Benjamin of Antelope was driving a 2017 Nissan Frontier at a high rate of speed on the interchange from southbound Atlantic Street to eastbound I-80 when he “failed to negotiate the cloverleaf” and drove across a median separating the 80 on-ramp from the Eureka Road off-ramp.
The Frontier broadsided a 2020 Hyundai Palisade driven by 43-year-old Ryan Penano of Rancho Cordova, causing the Palisade to roll over.
Benjamin’s Frontier continued south across all lanes of the off-ramp before hitting a metal guardrail and going down a steep embankment.
CHP says Benjamin has major injuries while his passenger has moderate injuries. Penano and his two child passengers have major injuries.
All five were taken to Sutter Roseville Medical Center by ambulance. CHP says everyone was wearing a seatbelt and what caused the crash is under investigation.
