The Tracy Police Officers' Association has declared a deadlock with the City of Tracy over their contract negotiations.
Here are the top five things you need to know about this disagreement:
- This deadlock with the city means they couldn't come to an agreement while negotiating their three year employee contracts, so they are now going to state mediation for help.
- This will not impact city safety. The police union tells ABC10, no matter how long negotiations take, they will still show up to work day-after-day and will not be going on strike.
- The union says they are looking for a fair contract in order to make the Tracy Police Department competitive with surrounding communities.
- Union officers make up more than 90 percent of the Tracy Police Department. Eighty-two of the 93 sworn officers are union members. They have been working without a contract for the past two months, which ended on June 30, 2018, meaning, they didn't get annual raises like most other city employees got with their settled contracts.
- Mediation could last up to 30 days and if that doesn't work, they will go to fact finding in front of an arbitrator. That's something that's meant to push along negotiations by bringing in an unbiased third party opinion.
