DAVIS, Calif. — The Davis Police Department is asking for help identifying six suspects accused of brutally attacking two people in the city’s downtown area.
According to a Facebook post from the police department, around 11:40 p.m. Friday near the intersection of 2nd and F streets six suspects approached two people and assaulted them, severely injuring one.
Police say the victim with severe injuries is unable to provide information to them.
Surveillance footage released Thursday shows six people in hoodies and face masks in the area before the attack.
Investigators haven’t connected the suspects to the victims, who were walking down the street at the time of the attack. Law enforcement said the motive is unclear, and they do not know if the victims and suspects came across each other earlier in the evening.
Detectives have spoken with people about the victims’ whereabouts throughout the night, but no witnesses or videos show where the suspects came from or went after the attack.
Anyone who witnessed the attack or has video can call the Davis Police Department at 530-747-5400 or email PoliceWeb@cityofdavis.org.
Police are also asking for nearby businesses to check their surveillance footage between 11 p.m. Friday and 12:30 a.m. Saturday.
“This was a particularly brutal crime and finding those responsible, and holding them accountable, is of the utmost importance,” said Police Chief Darren Pytel.
