7 children taken to hospital after school bus crash in Yuba City

An SUV reportedly stopped for a sedan turning left on Cherry Street when the school bus crashed into it, the California Highway Patrol said.

YUBA CITY, Calif. — Seven children were taken to the hospital after a school bus crash Tuesday morning in Yuba City.

Just before 8 a.m., a collision between a school bus and SUV closed South Walton Avenue at Cherry Street, according to a news release by the California Highway Patrol.

There were three vehicles total involved in the crash, the CHP’s Yuba-Sutter office said. A gray sedan traveling north was waiting for traffic to clear to turn left on Cherry Street when a gray SUV stopped for the sedan.

The school bus couldn’t stop in time and allegedly rear ended the SUV, which pushed the SUV into the sedan, according to law enforcement.

Seven students on the bus went to the hospital with either minor injuries or for precautionary measures, the CHP said. None of the three SUV occupants were taken to the hospital.

The road was open and the scene was clear just after 9:30 a.m., authorities said.
