70-year-old woman dies in quad accident in Nevada County

Police said she made an unsafe turn, caused her quad to roll over and was ejected off the vehicle

NEVADA COUNTY, Calif. — A 70-year-old woman died in a quad accident in south Nevada County Monday morning. 

According to the California Highway Patrol, first responders were dispatched to a reported ATV crash on private property off Springfield Drive, near Dog Bar Road, just before 9 a.m. 

Police said 70-year-old Susan McFarlane was driving a 2003 Yamaha Kodiak quad when she made an unsafe turn, caused her quad to roll over and was ejected off the vehicle. She hit the ground, sustaining severe injuries to her head and neck.

Despite efforts from first responders, she died at the scene.

Police said she wasn't wearing a helmet when the accident happened. While the crash is still under investigation, police said drugs and alcohol aren't suspected as factors.
