PLACER COUNTY, Calif. — A search is underway in Placer County for two men who got swept away by the American River while fishing near Oregon Bar.
According to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called around 9 p.m. Saturday and told two men were swept away in the American River two hours earlier and didn’t resurface.
Deputies say a group of three men went to the area of Oregon Bar to fish when two of them got into the water. One of them was swept away while the second tried to help but was pulled in by the current.
The dive team responded Saturday night but due to the darkness and fast moving water, it wasn’t safe for them to get in. They did a search on the shore but did not find the men.
There is an active search underway Sunday covering both sides of the river to locate the two men.
This is a developing story and will be updated as we learn more.
