Body found of father who jumped into American River to save son near No Hands Bridge

The Placer County Sheriff's Office said the father jumped into the river after he saw his son struggling in the water.

AUBURN, Calif. — Update: The Placer County Sheriff's Office has found the body of a man in the American River.

Law enforcement says the body has been identified as 38-year-old Zabiullah Haliqyar. His body was found downstream from No Hands Bridge. He was last seen jumping into the water to save his son on Sunday.

The search continues Monday for a father who didn't resurface after jumping into the American River to save his son.

According to the Placer County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to the American River near No Hands Bridge for the incident around 11:40 a.m. Sunday.

Citing family members, the sheriff's office said the man jumped into the river after seeing his son struggling in the water.

Officials said the child was safely pulled from the water by another person who also jumped in to help, however, the child's father hasn't been found since he went under the water.

The Placer County Sheriff's Office said crews started searching at the confluence Monday and will head down the river.

The child was taken to a hospital and is expected to be OK.
