'Americans with No Address' shines light on America's growing homeless crisis

ABC10's Mark S. Allen spoke with William Baldwin, Ty Pennington and Xander Berkeley about the challenges unhoused Americans face daily.

LOS ANGELES — "Americans with No Address" is a documentary seeking to give context to the upcoming drama film, "No Address."

While the drama will focus on fictionalized characters, the documentary focuses on the lives of the unhoused living in the United States.

ABC10's Mark S. Allen was at the red carpet premiere of "Americans with No Address," where he got to learn more about the project from those wanting to shed light on homelessness.

HERE ARE 3 THINGS TO KNOW:

  1. Homelessness is rising in the United States. According to the National Alliance to End Homelessness, homelessness reached a record-high in January 2023, with 653,104 people recorded as being unhoused in the United States. Meanwhile, the US Census says approximately 327,000 people lived in transitional shelters between 2018 and 2022.

  2. According to the California Senate Housing Committee, "California had 181,399 homeless people, which accounted for 28% of the nation’s homeless population." That means nearly one third of homeless people reside in California. California also had the highest rate of unsheltered unhoused people.

  3. Robert Craig Films, the production company behind "Americans with No Address" and "No Address," will give half of all profits made from the movies to organizations sharing the goal to end homelessness. Robert Craig Films invites homeless organizations to apply for a portion of the profits through its website.
