Man believed to be impersonating Sacramento County deputy arrested after high-speed chase

The sheriff’s office says a search of the vehicle found a loaded shotgun, an imitation gun and several Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office uniforms.

SACRAMENTO, Calif — A man Sacramento County deputies believe was impersonating a deputy is in custody after a high-speed chase.

According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, it happened around 8:15 p.m. Saturday in North Highlands. Deputies say they tried to make a stop on a stolen Ford Crown Victoria when a chase began.

The chase ended as deputies used a PIT maneuver to disable the vehicle and the driver, identified as 36-year-old Anthony Whitley, was caught with the help of a sheriff’s K9 after trying to leave the area.

The sheriff’s office says a search of the vehicle found a loaded shotgun, an imitation gun and several Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office uniforms. They believe he may have tried to impersonate a deputy.

Anyone who may have been contacted by Whitley while he was impersonating a deputy is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 916-874-5115.
