2 injured in freeway shooting in Auburn. CHP asks for public help getting more information

One CHP Auburn spokeswoman said it’s too early in the investigation to say whether or not the shooting was a road rage incident.

AUBURN, Calif. — Two people were injured Friday night in a freeway shooting in Auburn.

California High Patrol (CHP) said the shooting occurred just before 9 p.m. on westbound Interstate 80, east of Maple Street. The suspect or suspects allegedly fired from a vehicle into another vehicle resulting in minor injuries to two occupants of the victim vehicle, according to a news release Saturday from CHP’s Auburn division.

The victims reportedly called 911 and were transported to the hospital, CHP said. Both have been treated and are expected to make a full recovery.

CHP Auburn spokeswoman Yvette Norman told ABC10 on Saturday it’s too early in the investigation to say the shooting was a road rage incident. Norman said CHP will provide updates as it learns them.

CHP said it is conducting a criminal investigation and searching for suspects.

“We want to assure the public that this appears to be an isolated event and there is no ongoing threat or additional risk to the public at this time,” authorities said in the news release.

Auburn CHP officers are asking anyone who has any information regarding the incident to contact them at 916-663-3344, 1-800-835-5247 or 220pop@chp.ca.gov.
