80-year-old Foresthill woman dies in 'weather-related incident'

The woman was identified as 80-year-old Lois Barton. It is unclear exactly how she died, but according to the sheriff's office, it was a "weather-related incident."

PLACER COUNTY, Calif. — A Foresthill woman died due to a "weather-related incident" in Placer County, the Placer County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday.

The woman was identified as 80-year-old Lois Barton. It is unclear exactly how she died, but according to the sheriff's office, she died in the 5000 block of Clear Creek Court.

There was no other information available from the sheriff's office.

Neighbors told ABC10 that the woman's family members were long-time residents of Foresthill.

"An amazing family, and I know they’re hurting severely," said said Monica Nickel, a lodge owner in the area. "I get a little choked up because, I can’t even imagine what they’re going through right now."

Neighbors said her porch collapsed under the weight of all the snow, but what exactly happened remains unclear.

However, one thing that is clear is how her neighbors are choosing to cope with her loss.

"It’s a small community and we’re all here to support on another, and anything her – Lois – or anyone in her family needs, we will be there for them," said Ken Kerner, business owner.
