CALIFORNIA, USA — Highway 49 is closed near Auburn after a deadly crash Thursday, according to the Cal Fire Nevada Yuba Placer Unit.
Around 7:20 a.m. California Highway Patrol officers responded to a crash. CHP said the driver of a gravel truck crashed into the hillside and died at the scene. The truck was carrying about 2,000 pounds of gravel, according to CHP.
The highway is closed from Auburn through the confluence area of the American River into El Dorado County. Cal Fire said Old Foresthill Road is also closed at the confluence.
It's unclear how the crash happened. The crash is under investigation.
