2 dead after crossing river near Lake Clementine Trail | Update

Authorities said three people were trying to swim across the North Fork American River before being swept downstream by the current.

A man and a teenager died after trying to cross the North Fork American River near Lake Clementine Trail, Monday.

According to California State Parks, three people were trying to swim across the North Fork American River before being swept downstream by the current.

The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office responded around 5:30 p.m. near the El Dorado County and Placer County line.

A 33-year-old man died and the El Dorado County Coroner is handling his death. A 15-year-old teenage boy was taken to the Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital where he died. The Placer County Coroner's Office is handling the death of the 15-year-old.

Another teenage boy was rescued and treated at the scene.

According to the Placer County Sheriff's Office, the family at the scene only spoke Farsi, which led to communication issues. California State Parks originally reported the man was 50 years old.

One person is dead after authorities responded to a reported drowning at Lake Clementine Trail Monday evening.

According to California State Parks, three people were trying to swim across the North Fork American River before being swept downstream by the current. The incident was reported around 5:17 p.m.

First responders found a teenager, only described as male, did CPR and took him to a hospital. Another teenager, also a male, was found unscathed and pulled from the water. 

The third person, a man around 50 years old, was found dead in the water. Authorities are still trying to remove the body.
