Placer County opens disposal site for spoiled food that didn't survive PG&E's power shutoff

As an alternative to waiting on garbage service, Placer County opened a free disposal site for spoiled food.

AUBURN, California — Food that went bad during the PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoff doesn't have to wait for the garbage service in Placer County. Officials opened up a disposal site to help people get rid of food that didn't survive the power shutoff.

“We want to help people get their homes and businesses back in order after so many days of being without power,” said Placer County Public Works Department Deputy Director Kevin Bell in a statement. “Providing a way to get spoiled food out of the house and on its way to a disposal facility as soon as possible is key in making that happen.”

According to Placer County, disposing of the food at a transfer station can help deter bears and other wildlife from being drawn to the smell of the food waste.

Placer County Environmental Utilities and Recology Auburn Placer are offering the disposal site free of charge in order to help people impacted by the power shutoff.
