Carjacking suspect shot, killed by State Park Peace Officer at Palisades Tahoe

California State Parks says it unfolded as a State Park Peace Officer tried to stop a Tahoe City carjacking suspect.

OLYMPIC VALLEY, Calif. — The Placer County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after an officer shot and killed a carjacking suspect at Palisades Tahoe Friday.

According to a news release from California State Parks, it started around 10 a.m. when a State Park Peace Officer (SPPO) tried to stop a vehicle involved in a Tahoe City carjacking.

The chase ended in a crash near Olympic Valley Inn at Palisades Tahoe.

California State Parks says the driver exited the vehicle with a knife and the SPPO shot them as California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene.

The driver died from their injuries. They have not been identified yet.

California State Parks says it’s cooperating with the Placer County Sheriff’s Office on its investigation.
