Victims identified in small plane crash near Truckee

One person was found alive and another person was found dead in the crash of a small plane near Truckee Tahoe Airport Monday.
This picture is of the plane that crashed about three or four miles from the Truckee Tahoe Airport Monday morning. One person on board died and a second person suffered critical injuries, authorities said.

TRUCKEE, Calif. - One person died and another person was critically injured after a single-engine plane crashed a few miles from Truckee Tahoe Airport on Monday.

The woman who died was 55-year-old Darla Sue Farnell of Tahoe City, said Placer County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Dena Erwin. The injured man is 70-year-old Ray Richard Farnell also of Tahoe City.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Allen Kenitzer described the aircraft as a Piper PA-46 Malibu. Sheriff's Capt. Ausnow says it went down near Martis Peak in a rugged area about six miles southeast of the airport.

It was unknown why the plane crashed.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the incident.
