Bento Box opens in Folsom. Family-owned sushi business 'always wanted' to open in city

Bella and Phil Lee are siblings who grew up in Folsom. Now, they operate their family business's newest location in the Folsom Ranch development.

FOLSOM, Calif. — Bento Box hosted a grand opening Wednesday for its Folsom location, which is the family-owned restaurant’s first new spot in 14 years.

The Sacramento-based sushi company’s newest site is located at 3210 East Bidwell St., Suite 120, within the Folsom Plan Area development. Bella Lee operates it with her brother, Phil. The pair are co-owners, and they wanted to be a part of the city’s new developing area, she said.

“We grew up in Folsom, and we always wanted to be in Folsom,” Lee told ABC10. “It means a lot. It’s been 14 years, so we are very thankful for this opportunity, and we will continue to grow and expand.”

The Bento Box location before Folsom’s opened in 2010 at 1600 K St. in Midtown Sacramento. Other locations include the site in Loehmann’s Plaza along Fair Oaks Boulevard and another in the strip mall at the southwest corner of the 65th Street and Folsom Boulevard intersection.

“Because it’s been 14 years, we were concerned if people (would) still like us,” Lee said.

She said the East Bidwell location celebrated a soft opening roughly three weeks ago without notifying the public. Patrons from Folsom Ranch, other parts of Folsom, El Dorado Hills and Roseville reportedly dined at Bento Box. The restaurant was at full capacity every day, Lee said.

Lee said it likely won’t be 14 years before they open a new restaurant, and they are working to open another spot “pretty soon here.”

“(There’s) no timeline or location yet, but we are planning on opening a fifth location,” she said.
