SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A bicyclist is dead after colliding with a vehicle in the North Sacramento area Thursday.
The California Highway Patrol said the crash happened after noon in front of a business on the 4700 block of Northgate Boulevard.
According to the CHP, a man in his 40s was riding a bicycle on Northgate Boulevard south of Del Paso Boulevard possibly in the bike lane at an unknown speed.
While the bicyclists was the road, a Ford Bronco SUV driven by a man in his 20s was driving the same direction on Northgate Boulevard. As the Ford approached the bicyclist, the CHP said bike rider went directly into the path of the SUV for unknown reasons.
The front of the SUV collided with the bike rider, who was ejected onto the hood of the vehicle and then collided with the windshield.
Both parties remained on the scene after the collision. The driver of the Ford was not injured and the bike rider was taken to the hospital for major injuries. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
