SACRAMENTO, Calif. — February is Black History Month, and all month long ABC10 wants to highlight local Black-owned businesses in the Sacramento and Northern California region. We asked our viewers to share names of Black-owned businesses that should be featured on television and you delivered.
This article will be updated every morning as we introduce you to more local Black-owned businesses throughout the month.
House of Chicken and Ribs
House of Chicken and Ribs serves BBQ at Elverta Road and Watt Avenue in Antelope. This place is known for supporting the community and giving other local businesses the chance for some exposure. It's a family owned business with award winning BBQ that is a must-have when driving through the area.
SpiderMonkey Dessert's Studio
SpiderMonkey Dessert's Studio is owned by Jamie and run out of her home in Elk Grove. She'll bake any dessert for your celebration including cakes, pies, puddings, cobblers, and even cinnamon candy apples. The business recently launched contact-less delivery during the weekends. Jamie knows that times are difficult and makes a special effort to shout out her clients.
She states on the website, "Thank you to everyone for all of your support. I really look forward to growing with you and becoming a long term staple here in the River City. "
South
Follow your nose to Southside Park where you can get tasty southern cuisine from this Sacramento staple restaurant. Driven by historical inspiration, South serves traditional family food like catfish, fried chicken, cheese grits and even sweet potato pie.
Their website states, "At South we are not trying to reinvent the wheel, we are just trying to express 200 years of our family’s story on a 12” plate."
Miles Major Movers
If you need a cheap, inexpensive way to haul away stuff, give Miles Major Movers a call! This Sacramento business specializes in commercial, residential and foreclosure cleanouts. These movers are prepared to haul anything away including large appliances, furniture, trash and more. As they say on their Facebook page, "GO LOCO FOR LOCAL!!"
Fixins Soul Kitchen
Fixins Soul Kitchen received a lot of love on our Facebook page from viewers. This restaurant not only serves up delicious food but gives back to the community. It partners with Edible Sac High — a program designed to give kids a hands-on educational experience in the garden and kitchen — to inspire disadvantaged youth to become interested in the restaurant industry.
Although Fixins Soul Kitchen has only been open for a few years, we don't anticipate it going anywhere.
Queen Sheba Ethiopian Restaurant
Queen Sheba Ethiopian Restaurant is a colorful restaurant that delivers unique flavors in each plate. With homemade recipes passed down for generations and meals from scratch, it's a must-go while down on Broadway in Sacramento. Plus, there are vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options so everyone can enjoy this place.
Blossom Bathhouse
Blossom Bathhouse is the place to stop at while walking around Old Sacramento. It offers a unique variety of handmade products including soaps, candles, scrubs and even cosmetics. All of its products are paraben free and are made in the heart of Oak Park. This family business is dedicated to the farm-to-tub movement and has products that friends and family will love.
Abyssinia Restaurant
This Ethiopian Restaurant is a fan favorite. Located on Fulton Ave., this family-owned restaurant is the definition of authenticity with its meat plates and vegan dishes. Not hungry? Stop by and enjoy a cup of Ethiopian tea or a glass of wine.
Dlilah's Cakery
Dlilah's Cakery has shown no signs of slowing down during the pandemic. The cakery is accepting orders through email only and must be placed a minimum of three weeks in advance. Who's surprised though when they are serving up delicious alcohol infused cupcakes, mermaid lemonades and strawberry ice cream cake jars? This place will be your new favorite sweet spot.
Nash and Proper
Nash and Proper started as a food truck that gained so much popularity, it won the Calling All Dreamers contest and earned a spot on K street in 2020. The simple menu is full of flavor with a variety of heat levels for every fried chicken lover. Enjoy delicious fried chicken with one of their delicious sides like crinkle fries or pickled slaw. It has also been voted 2020's Best Food Truck, Best Friend Chicken and Best Spicy Food by Sacramento Magazine.
Daddy O's Smokehouse
Daddy O's brings over 30 years of cooking experience and more than 70 years of good old Texas BBQ to Rancho Cordova. Currently offering takeout, delivery or catering, this place does not hold back when it comes to old fashioned slow cooked BBQ. Download the Daddy O's app and order anything from chicken, tri-tip, brisket and even smoked salmon from the menu. Want something tasty to go along with your main dish? Get a side order of the mac and cheese or a side of greens. Craving something sweet for dessert? Try the cookies and cream pound cake. This place has endless combinations of hearty BBQ for you and the family to enjoy.

Rikee purchased her first 'fancy camera' and began photography as a hobby almost a decade ago. Now, she's a flourishing portrait, event, and lifestyle photographer in the Sacramento Area. She can do any type of photoshoot including family, maternity, models, influencers and more.

Garden of Eden Natural Cosmetics
Elisha's pregnancy sparked the idea for an all natural cosmetics line six years ago. Named after her daughter Eden, this place has a diverse line of natural products like sunflower soap, detangling conditioner and honey and oatmeal sugar scrubs.

If you need to fix a flat tire, get an oil change, or just a quick tune up, drive over to Roseville or Sacramento to check out this family owned and operated auto shop.
Pangaea Bier Café
This is the place to visit if you're looking for a new spot to enjoy a fresh burger and a beer. Voted Best Burger in Sacramento multiple years in a row, Pangaea Bier Café is the perfect place to hang out and get a tasty meal. This BBQ joint in Elk Grove stands out from the rest in more ways than one. MacQue's BBQ offers a keto menu, family BBQ packs and their sweet and savory sauces by the bottle. Plus, it's received 2021's Small Business of the Year award from the Elk Grove Chamber. Owners Mack and Charlie's dream of making the best BBQ and sauce in the community lives on in Elk Grove and will continue for generations to follow.
Thompson’s Auto Detail & Hand Wash

Owner Trent Thompson not only participates in the community with his locally owned business, but also volunteers.
