PINE GROVE, Calif. — Pine Grove in Amador County sits at an elevation of around 2,500 feet, and while there isn't snow there yet Thursday afternoon, the conditions are right and people are preparing for low-elevation snow.
ABC10 caught up with resident Steve Bacchi as he was on a shopping run. Water and eggs were at the top of his list.
"(We) had to make the run while we could," he said. "Just grabbing up some groceries and try to get prepped for the storm. We're not going to be able to get out for a few days."
Bacchi and his neighbors are bracing for the arrival of a winter storm.
"I'm expecting to be stuck in my house for a few days. I went and bought a bunch of water," said Karen Dunham.
Plenty of people flocked to the gas station and market off Highway 88 in Pine Grove too.
"It's been pretty busy, steady today and buying a lot of propane," said Orlando's Market cashier Tammy Peck.
In a video posted to Facebook, Amador County Sheriff Gary Redman asked people to check on isolated neighbors and seniors and take steps to prepare.
"Please be prepared. Have your emergency preparedness kits ready, have your fuel for your generators, your medication, your supplies to sustain yourself if we lose power for about a week," said Redman. "We're going to be prepared. We're going to be staging the equipment such as the Jeep behind me to make sure that we can get to you."
Deputies are also on standby to check on residents.
"We have pre-positioned an off-road vehicle in the upcountry area to best serve that community," said Matt Girton with the sheriff's office.
The owner of Orlando's Market say they plan to be open 24 hours a day once the snow starts to come down.
