4-year-old boy drowns in Manteca swimming pool

Police say the child’s mother and brother were home at the time of the drowning but didn’t know he went into the backyard by the pool.

MANTECA, Calif. — A 4-year-old Manteca child’s drowning death has been ruled an accident, according to Manteca police.

The drowning happened around 11:30 a.m. Monday at a home on Cistus Court.

Police say they were called to the home for a 4-year-old boy who was found unresponsive in a backyard swimming pool. Officers performed CPR until medics arrived.

The boy was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Police say the child’s mother and brother were home at the time of the drowning but didn’t know he went into the backyard by the pool.

Detectives determined the death was accidental.
