Cal Fire law enforcement arrest 21-year-old Elk Grove man for sparking Shingle Fire

Jacob Morris, 21, was arrested July 5 for causing over 300 acres of damage near Rancho Murrieta with illegal fireworks

21-year-old Jacob Morris of Elk Grove was arrested by CAL FIRE law enforcement officials on July 5 for causing the 316-acre wildfire near Rancho Murrieta on July 4.

Morris had lit several illegal fireworks, causing the destruction of hundreds of acres of oak woodland. Luckily, no structures had been harmed and no injuries were reported, thanks to the quick work of CAL FIRE firefighters.

A CAL FIRE spokesman said that the department is dedicated to investigating all fires and prosecuting those responsible.

CAL FIRE still warns that fire danger is high across the state due to high temperatures, wind and dry conditions. With Independence Day celebrations still ongoing even after July 4, CAL FIRE reminds people to stay alert and report any suspicious activity.

They warn people not to approach suspicious individuals, but to note as many details as possible, including location, suspect description and vehicle details. If suspicious activity is seen, witnesses can report the details to local law enforcement.
