California community college students to get 'guaranteed acceptance' at 36 private universities

Thirty-six private California colleges and universities signed an agreement to offer students guaranteed admission at a junior standing so long as the student meets certain academic requirements.

Students looking to transfer from a California community college to a 4-year university now have many more options across the state.

Thirty-six private California colleges and universities, Wednesday, signed an agreement with the California Community Colleges system to offer students guaranteed admission at a junior standing so long as the student meets certain academic requirements.

The program offers associate degree transfer students another alternative to UC and CSU schools, which have a similar agreement with state community colleges.

"It is growing increasingly more difficult to get to the campus that you want to get to within the CSU or UC," California Community Colleges Chancellor Eloy Ortiz Oakley said. "This will allow access to other great colleges and universities for our students so that gives them the opportunity to relieve some of that tension if they can't get into, let's say Berkeley, for example."

Each participating college has its own set of requirements -- specific majors, required courses, etc -- that potential students must follow if they wish to transfer. (This is a list of the majors each of the colleges will accept.)

Here are all the participating colleges and universities, according to the Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities:
