California Election: Bogue, Cabaldon have early lead in State Senate District 3

Incumbent Democrat Bill Dodd will not seek another term. Five candidates vie for the seat, which represents Davis, Vacaville, Sonoma and Vallejo.

NAPA, Calif. — Thom Bogue (R) and Christopher Cabaldon (D) are leading the polls for Senate District 3 seat after incumbent State Senator Bill Dodd (D-Napa) will not run for a third term due to term limits. 

Only one candidate can take the seat. While both are currently leading, there are five candidates running for the spot: 

  • Thom Bogue, a Republican businessman currently serving on Dixon city council.
  • Christopher Cabaldon, a Democrat educator who previously served as mayor of West Sacramento.
  • Jimih Jones, a Republican auto parts advisor.
  • Rozzana Verder-Aliga, a Democrat healthcare provider currently serving on Vallejo city council.
  • Jackie Elward, a Democrat educator currently serving on Rohnert Park City Council.

They are competing for votes in California’s 3rd Senate District. The district covers the cities of Martinez and Pleasant Hill in Contra Costa County; American Canyon, Calistoga, Napa, Yountville and St. Helena in Napa County; Benicia, Dixon, Fairfield, Rio Vista, Suisun City, Vacaville and Vallejo in Solano County; Cotati, Petaluma, Rohnert Park and Sonoma in Sonoma County; Davis, West Sacramento, Winters and Woodland in Yolo County; and Isleton in Sacramento County.

The top two candidates will head to the General Election in November.
