CALIFORNIA, USA — California Gov. Gavin Newsom will soon begin splitting his time between Sacramento and Marin counties.
According to Izzy Gardon, a spokesperson for the governor, the family will split their time between the two places heading into the academic year.
Newsom's eldest of four children will be starting high school in the fall. The Newsoms want their children to have continuity in their education by not having to transfer schools when Newsom's term is up.
Newsom and Jennifer Siebel Newsom will continue to overnight regularly in Sacramento and will keep their Sacramento home in Fair Oaks.
According to a spokesperson, they will be staying with family when overnighting in Marin.
Newsom attended Redwood High School in Larkspur and Siebel Newsom attended The Branson School in Ross. Both are in Marin County. Newsom was the mayor of San Francisco from 2004-2011.
Newsom's second term as California governor ends January 2027.
Other California governors split their time between Sacramento and another part of the state, according to the governor's office. Former Gov. Jerry Brown commuted to Sacramento from Oakland for part of his term. Former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger commuted from Los Angeles during his term.
