California International Marathon Forecast: Chilly start, good weather

The California International Marathon begins Sunday and you'll want the jacket, but at least it's dry!

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Thousands of runners will lace up Sunday, Dec. 8, to compete in what’s known as the “fastest course in the West," or the California International Marathon.

The marathon is set to start promptly at 7 a.m. near Folsom Dam where temperatures are expected to be at a chilly 42 degrees. Some patchy fog is possible but shouldn't be dense.

About three hours into the race, temperatures should be in the low 50s with clearing skies. Once the finish line is getting ready to close — about 6 hours after the start of the race — temps will be in the upper 50s under mostly sunny skies.

Winds are expected to be light to calm for the morning run, but may increase by the afternoon and evening hours. We'll see a crisp, chilly and mostly sunny Sunday.

Runners and spectators on the course should plan accordingly. That means long sleeves and jackets will likely be needed for those watching, and runners may want to consider leggings and/or a thin long sleeve to start the race. Layering will be your friend Sunday morning.

The CIM is a Boston Marathon qualifier and US Olympic Trials marathon qualifier. The course starts at Folsom Lake and travels the 26.2 miles down towards the Capitol. The map course details major thoroughfares such as Fair Oaks Boulevard, Oak Avenue, J Street and L Street.
